subject: Choosing The Right Dentist In Your Area [print this page]

Finding the right dentist is very important. You dont want to trust such care to just anyone. There are many things you should evaluate before you choose one of them. Ask around to find out who your friends and family go to. You can get a great deal of information that way right off the surface. During those discussions you will find some dentist seem to be highly recommended.

Find out what types of dentistry they offer too. Some of them do general dentistry and that is what you want. If you need specialty work done they can also refer you to someone else when that time comes. Schedule an appointment to come in and talk at a new dentist office. Have a list of questions ready with you when you go.

When you arrive are you greeted promptly? You should feel very comfortable at the dentist each time you arrive. The anxiety of going to that professional is enough for most people so dont compound it by not feeling like you belong there. Find out what types of equipment they use and the experience that the dentist has.

It is a good idea to check them out with the American Dental Association. There you can find out about credentials. You can also find out if any types of complaints have been issued against that dentist. If you have children you want to find out of they will see them too. Some locations dont allow parents in the area when children are having dental work done. If you want that right then you need to be sure the dentist you select is going to allow it.

What hours is the dentist available? Some of them only work a few days a week at a particular office. Others are open some evening hours and a couple Saturdays a month too. This is a more flexible schedule that could better for you. Then you arent taking off work or having the kids miss school to get to dental appointments.

What about emergencies? Is there a phone number you can call when you need to be seen right away? That is important with any dentist as you dont want to be in agony waiting several days before you can get an appointment.

Make sure you ask any dentist about the cost. Even if you have dental insurance there can be some things not covered. Are they going to offer you a decent payment plan that works for your budget? If you dont have insurance do they have a discount program you can apply for? The more information you gain up front the easier it will be for you to find a dentist that you are very happy with.
