subject: Share Your Joy Through A Birth Announcement [print this page]

For months, you have been preparing--decorating the nursery, registering for baby items, attending your baby shower, picking out a name, and gradually obtaining all of the essentials to make life with baby easier. You have been hearing all kinds of advice from friends, family members, and even random strangers.

But now that Baby is finally here, you feel a strange mix of elation and exhaustion. You are trying to develop a new routine with your little family. You want a little privacy to dote on your little one, but now is exactly the time to share with others the arrival of your bundle of joy.

Birth announcements may seem to be going out of style, but when you have friends and family members that are scattered across the country (or maybe even the entire globe), a birth announcement is a great way to make loved ones feel more involved in and connected to your major life milestones.

With the advent of camera phones, compact video cameras, and digital cameras, Baby's first moments are easily captured on film. Be sure to take advantage of this technology.

You may even want to have some professional photographs taken in the first few weeks. If you are operating on a budget, find a talented family member or a student that is hoping to build their portfolio.

With your spouse, select a few of your favorites. As you begin to design the birth announcement, you may want to create a collage or present a single striking photo. As though you were writing a title, you will want to have the announcement begin with the child's full name (include the middle name).

The text on the little proclamation should include the following information: the baby's time and date of birth, his or her weight and length, and your names as the parents. Now, be aware that some of these figures can be omitted. For example, if your baby had an unhealthy birth-weight, you can feel free to keep this info out of the announcement.

You will want to make sure the announcement is durable. You should do some research online to find companies that will print them on high-quality photo paper.

Or, on the other hand, you could contact a company that will print your design on a post card magnet. These can be easily placed on refrigerators to keep them well-preserved and easily in view inside the home.

Creating a birth announcement may initially be the furthest thing from your mind. But right now is the moment that everyone wants to share in your joy. Share your happiness with all your loved ones--start designing an announcement today.
