subject: A Perfect Addition To A Girls' Night In [print this page] For any group of girls, one of the best opportunities to spend quality time together is having a girls' night in. Whether there is man trouble, problems at work, drama with a mutual friend, or whether you just fancy a few girly films and a catch up, there is always an excuse to relive your teenage years with gal pals and have a great time. However, with the girls' night in becoming a major part of the lives of women of all ages, the girls' night in of the 2010s is very different to those from your early teens. Here is a list of great suggestions for girls' nights in with a difference, with everything from personalised chocolate bars to private belly dancing lessons.
Film Night
Although this is a standard idea for a girly night in, why not swish it up and have themes. If you are proud single ladies, watch films such as "How to Make An American Quilt", "Sex and the City" or the "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood." For a weird and wacky evening try Tim Burton or David Lynch films. If you are looking for some eye candy, "Top Gun" and "Dirty Dancing" are standard fayre and a Disney revival evening is always fun.
Wine Tasting Evening
Some may choose to take this seriously and really splurge on a wine they would never normally drink and chatting with jazzy background music...however, for many, this simply involves grabbing some bottles from the supermarket.
Murder Mystery Evenings
For those who love a bit of Marple and equally for those who do not, having a murder mystery party can be great fun. Kits come with character descriptions, DVDs showing you clues and additional characters and even with appropriate recipes for the era you are acting. You usually send out the character descriptions in advance so your guests can prepare their costumes - the best part is seeing what people are wearing! You have to watch out for heated guests as the accusation round can really get sparks flying!
Chocolate Evenings
What women do not love chocolate? This is why chocolate parties are sure-fire winners for a girls' night in. Whilst you could just sit and binge eat chocolate, or even have a chocolate fondue, many people are making their own personalised chocolate bars as they can choose exactly what goes in it. Making personalised chocolate bars is also a lot easier than it sounds. Whilst some people may enjoy the whole process at home, realistically it always ends up tasting a bit cocoa-y and odd, so more and more people are buying kits to make it at home or even customising their own chocolate online. With these you can choose what is written on and often what goes in it as well, so you know it will taste and look great. Another girls' night in trend is to make party bags for your guests; popping one of these in would be the perfect surprise.
Board Game Evening
Recently these events have really come back into trend. Not only can you all let off steam as you let out your inner competitiveness, but games such as Pictionary and Monopoly are hilarious (Trivial Pursuit might be a bit too intense!). For those of you who are more technology advanced, Wii parties are great fun and you can trick yourself into thinking you have burnt off all the calories!
Active Evenings
Those of you who really do want to burn off a few calories could invest in a great dance workout DVD and have a laugh doing it together. If you fancy livening up the idea a little, you could all pitch in and rent a dance or yoga instructor for the evening. Having someone official there means you really pay attention and will probably learn a lot of great tips for future work outs. If you are not serious about being fit whilst having fun, you can always invite a sexy Latino Tango instructor and spend the evening getting hot, hot, hot!
Having-A-Breather Evenings
Although we are all well intentioned about trying out a new dance or sport, or even concentrating on board games, for many girls just a chance to do each others nails, pop on a face mask and take some time out will suffice.
No matter what kind of girls' night in you organise, very often it is just about taking the time out to have a gossip and really treat yourself. Whether you do that with a few too many chardonnays, personalised chocolate bars or crying your eyes out to "Titanic", you will have a great evening with your gal pals.
