subject: Wedding Entertainment From Dj's To Bands [print this page]

An important component of any wedding that is often neglected during the planning process is the desired source of wedding entertainment. This is most likely because of the fact that the bride and groom more or less know what they do and do not want; it is often just a matter of finding a qualified professional to provide it.

While the musical soundtrack for your big day is understandably not always the most pressing matter to contend with, you must at the very least keep the various entertainment options somewhere in the back of your mind to access when the time is right.

Depending on the type of musical entertainment you select, you may need to give the provider a certain amount of advanced notice to secure their assistance on the day. Also keep in mind that time must be allotted to shopping around for competitively priced service providers if you are planning a wedding on a budget and are open to several different options in entertainment.

Again, when you do start to consider your choice of entertainment don't leave it too late and set yourself up for unnecessary panic at the last minute. The most widely chosen form of wedding entertainment is usually a mobile disco with a disc jockey (DJ).

While a DJ standing at the edge of the stage with his or her giant boxes of audio equipment nearby is not as sophisticated as a live wedding band, it does have its individual merits. Aside from costing dramatically less than the live band, the wedding DJ is also a great option if you want your reception to be more of an interactive affair.

DJs fairly often acquire their good reputations from their consistent ability to get the guests involved at any party or event. Have you ever been to a party where you were practically forced to compete in the infamous game of limbo? You know the one where you have to flex your body appropriately to inch your way under the long lowering pole?

What about the Electric Slide? Maybe you've had the chance to master one of these activities that is commonly hosted by a DJ. and chances are that in spite of your embarrassment and conscious opposition to these games, you remember the party or event where they took place better than others. Let's face it, you probably had a blast.

Another positive factor that comes with hiring a DJ for your wedding reception entertainment is the ability to go with the flow, or adapt to your sudden change of moods. Maybe you picked out a first song months ago but on the way to the wedding you heard a more perfect one on the radio that you had completely forgotten about. Or let's say you have a special song you'd like to dance to with your dad and it is particularly obscure or hard to play live? As you can see the obvious obstacles a live band might have in fulfilling these, new needs can easily be worked around by a DJ.

DJs tend to have plenty of popular music in their collections. Even if for some reason they don't have what you are looking for at the last minute, one of your guests may magically come up with the needed CD that was waiting in their parked car outside as if prepared for this very moment. On the other hand, with a live band, if the musicians don't know the song, then they don't know the song!
