subject: Lose Weight - The Healthy Way! [print this page]

We often hear about obesity but do we know what this condition really is?

Obesity is a great hazard because when a person become horrendously obese, he or she would inevitably have to face the complications that come with obesity. Indeed, obesity in itself is neither a threat nor a danger but then again, the effects of this condition may make a person susceptible to various health disorders, thus making fatal consequences an imminent possibility. As you get older you have to eat less and move more in order to counter balance a rapidly declining metabolism. While this may sound simplistic it is very practical for those individuals who are genuinely interested in shedding unwanted pounds. The weight loss industry is filled with thousands of conflicting ideas about healthy weight loss.

Your metabolism validates the rate at which you will burn calories and, ultimately, how quickly you gain weight or how easily you lose it. A persons metabolism is usually most influenced by their age (metabolism naturally slows about 5% per decade after age 40).

Most people who do not succeed in losing weight and try to make drastic changes to their lives to fit into some strict diet. We have discovered the hard way that this is a surefire recipe for disappointment. Keep in mind that you didn't pack on those additional twenty five pounds overnight. If you become aware of the very things that packed on the weight you will be that much more successful in achieving your weight loss goals.

Here are three simple recommendations that will make it much easier for you to shed the pounds.

1. Drop that cola! A small 12 ounce cola product has a whopping 140 calories and usually about 40 grams of carbohydrates. Let's do the math. If you drink only one can a day, over the course of twelve months that adds up to over 51,000 calories, or approximately fourteen pounds. If you switch to water, or water with lemon, or natural tea you can achieve the same snack-time refreshment without any of the additional calories.

2. Get moving! It is not difficult to increase your metabolism if you simply think about getting your body in motion. You don't have to run a marathon or be at the gym first thing in the morning. You just have to move. Consider walking up the stairs as a substitute of taking the elevator. Walk after meals to increase your circulation. Take a parking space as far away from your destination just to make you walk a little further.

3. Hold the Mayo! One tablespoon of mayonnaise has about 10 grams of fat and about 100 calories. The healthiest solution for your sandwich is mustard as a substitute of water; it only 10-20 calories per tablespoon.

Choose one simple habit you wish to dismiss or change and apply it from this list. You'll see the power of simplicity in action.
