subject: Dieting Together And Making It Work [print this page]

Many times over it has always been noted that losing weight with a partner can increase the chances of success for couples. The truth of the matter is that your significant other may just be the best partner you may have in terms of dieting.

On a recent note, there was a study held at Yale University wherein they have concluded that when people pair up they are more likely to be motivated and supportive of each other which in turn can result in significant weight loss as compared to individuals who struggle with weight loss on their own.

When we speak of weight loss it does not limit itself to the practice of counting calories but rather it also embraces the idea that dieters should make a lifestyle change. In this light, it would require a great support from the people around you more particularly your spouse.

There were some nutritionists who have explained how couples who mutually agreed on changing their food choices together have far better and fast weight loss results that are even enjoyed for a long period of time. It was also noted that in a relationship when only one is committed to health and fitness goals there would be instances that conflicts may arise. In this light, it is suggestive that one partner should lead by example and express support at all times. Showing a positive outlook on things can be contagious and more like to result in your weight loss goals.

It is inevitable that if only one has the commitment to go forward with weight loss the other may eventually give up on the path towards weight loss and simply opt to do the same thing with the other. Actually, dieting together would let you get to know your beloved half more due to the fact that you would have to know their weakness as to why they have weight problems of their own. And when you have finally found out, you can help them with their struggle and support them towards fitness. Remember to keep a stronghold on your goals and do not allow your partner to ruin it all up.

What's most helpful when dieting as a couple is the constant reminder for each other when one seems to be going off the wrong path. Similar to other kinds of dieting plan, it should be incorporated as a lifetime habit or else, it would be inevitable that the weight that was lost would be regained. There are some people or couples who have struggled for weight loss for a period of time and after being satisfied with the results they have left their weight loss program and continued on their old habits. This would likely put a great strain on one's metabolism and makes it difficult to lose weight the next time around.

For a joint effort towards weight loss having a constant communication is a vital thing. It has been noted that dieting may either put two people closer together or make them wither apart if there has been a prior issue before dieting. On the other hand, if both of you are seriously committed to it, dieting with your spouse can be a one-of-a-kind-experience where you can experience success together.
