subject: A Post Pregnancy Diet Does Not Include Coke! [print this page]

Actually a Post Pregnancy Diet doesn"t include most juices or sports drinks either. These are just sugar in liquid form! That means these sugary beverages will wreak havoc on your diet!

Your body absorb the sugar in these drinks extremely fast. Sugar in the bloodstream is converted to glucose. Glucose causes insulin production. Insulin is a hormone designed to help regulate glucose in your system. Ideally, your body wants a very steady level of glucose, with no dips or spikes. For the best results during your post pregnancy diet, always maintain steady blood sugar levels.

But too much sugar in the system leads to a blood sugar spike. The body can"t maintain these over-high glucose levels without MORE sugar intake, and for best post pregnancy diet results you need to lower your sugar intake in order to lose weight after a baby. Next thing you know, your blood sugar will fall dangerously.

The worst part? When it comes down, it will fall lower than where it started before you drank that sugary drink. This will result in extreme fatigue and when you are tired mid-day, you want to eat! A tired and hungry new mom is not likely to reach for an apple or celery sticks in these moments of what feels like desperate cranky hunger. Especially if you are breastfeeding! You will dig deep into the pantry for something sweet: cookies, cake, candy. Or another coke.

Juice is unfortunately not much better. Sure it may have vitamin C and a few other artificially added or naturally occurring nutrients, but that is about where the good stuff stops. Juice is dessert in disguise. Some juices have more sugar than a soda, and many have high fructose corn syrup. The fact is that store bought juices ruin a post pregnancy diet the same way a soda does. A blood sugar spike, followed by a blood sugar fall, followed by a tired hungry cranky new mom, is followed by a poor snack choice.

The only good juice is fresh LIVE juice, and even that should be enjoyed in moderation when first starting a weight loss program. Juice has had all the fiber removed that makes up the rest of the fruit or veggie. Fiber from veggie sources is necessary for any post pregnancy diet. Instead of juicing, consider whole-fruit smoothies! These are far easier to make than fresh juice, as it only requires a good blender and some water.
