5 Things To Consider When Booking A Wedding Reception

Choosing a wedding reception is one of the most important decisions an engaged couple will make with their wedding preparations. Here are five items to consider, when choosing yours.

1. Your Wedding Style or Theme - Matching your reception venue to your wedding theme is important. Clearly it does not make sense spending time in the mountains looking for a quaint cottage, when you are planning a beach wedding. There are many other style based ideas worthy of thought. For example, do you want a warm feeling, where a venue with an open fire would really add to the ambiance. Or do you want the open, cool feeling. Lots of natural light, open doors and windows, a breeze blowing through the garden. These matters should be clear to you before you start looking for a reception as they will really target your search, maximizing the value of your time.

2. Sit Down Meal or Cocktails and Canaps - What do you prefer? Some couples believe that a sit down meal really interrupts the party and stops the vibe. For them a cocktails and canaps affair is the only way to go. If you have the elders of your family attending, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, it is hard to go past a formal sit down dinner though. Clearly your choice here will have an impact on the venue you need to host your guests.

3. Facilities and Conveniences - What else do you need to make your day perfect? The venue requirements for a live band, a DJ or jukebox are completely different. Do you need an open bar or would you prefer a drinks service? Are there other aspects of your wedding that require something from your venue?

4. Your Guests - Even though this day is about you, you need to consider your guests, you are hosting them for your first official celebration as a married couple. Do they have special needs that you need to cater for. Dietary needs, wheelchair access and protection from the elements for outdoor wedding are all things which may need to be considered. Nothing will mar a beach wedding like an elderly guest with heat stroke.

5. Proximity To The Ceremony and Photo Opportunities - Many couples have the ceremony and reception at different venues. There is no problem in doing this, consider the travel time for both yourself and your guests though. Remember, you really do not want to spend three hours of your wedding day travelling when you could be spending this time getting photos done or with your guests.
