Making African Zebra Skins More Enjoyable

If you are reading this, chances are, you are thinking of employing an exotic animal rug into your decorating and in this case, it might even be a zebra skin rug. If so, you are on the right track; zebra hides are appealing to the eye like no other animal coat is.

A Quick Side Note

You might be wondering why these pelts are pleasing to the eye, and for a good reason. Maybe it is the fact that the Burchell's zebra (the only zebra specie not endangered and the one responsible for legal zebra rugs) has roughly twenty six vertical and horizontal lines that come together flawlessly to form an organized orchestra of black stripes. Who knows, it might be anything.

Making a zebra rug more appealing

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is little to nothing that you can do to make these skins better than they already are. One thing you can try doing is to choose the most appropriate place to use it. Alternatively, you can also elect to buy the highest quality hide you can find.

High quality rugs

Since zebras are animals of prey in their wild environment, they are constantly attacked by predators. Those that encounter such events and survive, usually end up with scars from the bites they sustain. With that in mind, the hides from these animals are of lower quality.

What makes a good quality skin?

A great pelt is one that has few to no visible scars and/or repair marks. Repair marks come from the fixing of flaws on the skin surface. The severe the damages, the bigger and visually noticeable the marks are.

Familiarize yourself with the grading

The one thing you should take away from this is: make sure you know how different quality rugs are categorized. If you do only this one thing, you will be rest assured that the skin you buy will have a wow effect on admires because you'll be able to choose one that doesn't have more blemishes than the spots on a full grown Dalmatian.
