subject: Malaria - The Deadly Sting Of A Female Anopheles Mosquito [print this page]

Malaria is a disease caused by the sting of a female mosquito or known also as Anopheles mosquito. This is transferred to you via a sting which they carry the parasite called Plasmodium. The patient who has this kind of parasite was bitten by an Anopheles mosquito and has bitten you also eventually. This type of species of mosquito usually came from places known as Malarious, a place where malaria cases are very rampant.

Two types of malaria:

a.) Severe Malaria this can carry out symptoms within months from the day of the infection. It is mainly caused by a bloodsucker known as Plasmodium falciparum.

b.) Mild Malaria this is the kind of malaria infection wherein its symptoms can be diagnosed up to a year. It can cause slow deterioration to patients because of its hidden characteristic.

The Symptoms

The primary symptoms of malaria are just like flu. This may take effect any time from the day you were stung. The symptoms my appear (incubation period) depending on what type of parasite the host is transmitting.

For a host carrying with P. Falciparum, it may take months for the usual symptoms to appear.

For a host carrying with P. Vivax, P. Ovale or P. Malariae the symptoms may appear for a year. The parasite for this reason can stay hidden in your body organs and reactivates after a few months or after the incubation period has finished.

If you suspect someone or even yourself that some symptoms are occurring dont hesitate to visit the nearest health clinic you can directly go. This is not like other diseases that if you obtained vaccines for them, you are now immune. Immunity may be obtained only if you are used to it but it still advisable to obtain another.

The Parasite

There are 4 kinds of Plasmodium parasite, these are:

a.) Plasmodium falciparum It is the deadliest of all of its kind because it produces the most damaging symptoms of all.

b.) Plasmodium vivax It has less damaging effect unlike the first one. Be always careful by this type of parasite because it may take time for them to produce damage. The organ which is usually affected is the liver.

c.) Plasmodium ovale This is just the same to P. Vivax. The only thing is it runs in your blood and so with the liver also.

d.) Plasmodium malariae This is considered as the rarest kind of malaria parasite. Its symptoms are just the same for the previous two.

Diagnosis and its Treatment

During the diagnosis stage the doctor will clearly ask details about your previous experience about malaria. The doctor will examine you by blood testing. This may take for a few numbers of tests especially if you receive previous medication. This is due to the fact that the amount of parasite content in your body is too low for detection due to the previous medication youve received. Therefore, some tests may be repeated to determine whether if you have the parasite in your blood vessels.

There are many treatments or medicines that are for malaria cases nowadays. It is better to let your doctor know the previous medication youve received because there are certain medicines that cannot be taken anymore for more than once. There is a treatment especially in severe cases wherein the patient needs to have an intravenous type of medication. This is to assess the destroyed RBC in the blood.

Conclusion

We should never forget that prevention is better than cure. If one suspects any of the symptoms present, be vigilant enough to consult the nearest doctor you can contact. You cannot die instantly with malaria; the world has its cure.
