Pregnancy is probably the most wonderful experience for a woman. The feeling of the ability to conceive and soon becoming a mother is unexplainable. The world of a pregnant woman is turbulent with hopes, dreams, excitements and emotions. While she undergoes a number of physiological and psychological changes, her partner the man or the soon-would-be father goes through a wide range of feelings too. The feelings inside the male counterpart of a pregnant woman are often neglected and least understood.

It is incorrect to interpret that in giving birth to a child, the mothers do everything. Fathers do support the mothers during the pregnancy and makes a lot of sacrifices silently. There is often a great urge amongst the men to do more than earning the bread'. Most of the men being introvert in emotional expressions, dreams to become an ideal dad for the baby coming in the family. In order to achieve this, potential fathers can start playing their role right from the moment his partner is diagnosed to be pregnant. Following are the measures a man/father should undertake during the period of pregnancy:

- Understand her. This is probably the most important part for a man/father. He must understand the very peculiarities and complicacies of pregnancy in a woman. It is useful to study a little bit on pregnancy in order to conduct yourself well with your female counterpart during her pregnancy.

- Be supportive to your partner. Assist her in doing the family chores or take over control of the same entirely if possible. In occasions, give her a comfortable massage including back rub or foot massages.

- Allow her time alone. Due to the very nature of pregnancy related symptoms, women often feel to stay away from their partners. As a husband/man, you must understand this and allow sufficient time to your partner to spend alone if desired. However, you must not leave her completely alone rather your interactions should be well balanced between time spent together and own time.

- Dream and plan together. Share your wonderful thoughts about your baby with her. Share as to how you want to bring up the baby together.

- Caress her frequently. Talk to her more. Tell her how beautiful she looks the way she is. Many pregnant women think that they have lost beauty in becoming pregnant and are less attractive to their husbands.

- Never enforce sex on your partner. Never express the desire of having sex either. It is normal for men to suffer the abstainment. Let your partner express the desire of having sex. Have sex only if she has a normal pattern of pregnancy. In case of any discomfort refrain from having sex without giving out any symptoms of dissatisfaction on the matter.

- Give her additional attention during the entire period of pregnancy. This will allow her to be emotionally stable which would help her in remaining in sound health too. Ask her about her choices of food, drink etc. Remind her about the prescribed medicines if any.

There are number of ways a father/man can be supportive to his pregnant partner. Above are only few. You must be the best judge to identify what your partner needs in order to have an enjoyable pregnancy with your sincere support.
