Saving Money On Scooter And Moped Insurance Takes Time

If a person wants to be saving money on scooter and moped insurance, there are a number of things they need to be considering before signing with an insurance company. There is the risk factor the insurance company assigns to the policy holder as well as the previous driving record of the driver. Other determining factors would be where the driver is going to park the two wheeled transportation machine and their age.

Ultimately, a person's age is a large risk factor or a perceived risk factor the insurance companies try to avoid when insuring mopeds and scooters or bikes of any kind. For drivers under the age of 25, they are simply out of luck because they have to pay a higher premium than older drivers mainly because of their lack of experience. With past accidents on a young person's driving record, a new insurance company may require the younger driver to maintain a clean, accident-free record for a longer period of time before they will lower their rates.

Besides a person's age, the insurance company will want to know where a moped or scooter will be parked at night. The reason behind the insurance companies curiosity is mainly because scooters and mopeds are the most often stolen type of transportation since they are lighter weight and can not be 'nailed to the ground' or even locked to something that is immobile. The insured may find that in order to receive a good deal on their moped or scooter insurance they could park their two wheeled transportation in their living room or a friends better neighborhood.

There are often times when a new scooter or moped owner will begin their insurance coverage at a disadvantage because they have over guessed the amount of miles they will be putting on the small vehicle. Most of the mopeds and scooters will only rack up around a total of 6,000 miles per year not nearly as many as a car. This is because a car will travel more places than the moped or scooter due to its lack of space for passengers, cargo room or maneuverability in the rain.

Another point of contention would be filing a claim. Although it may be easy to do, would it be worth it is the question. Some insurance companies will give a car owner a discount of between 10-20% for an accident free year and this will jump up to nearly 40% for mopeds, scooters and other bikes.

It never hurts to ask for a discount and there are many discounts available for various conditions or situations that people have that will allow them to gain access to the discounts. For example there may be scooter and moped discounts for women only drivers, people who are over age 50, young drivers with good grades or for putting a homeowner's police together with the small two wheeled motor bike insurances.

An insurance shopper looking for good rates on moped or scooter insurance should not count out the smaller insurance company because they just might specialize in the two wheeled vehicle coverage. The bigger companies would offer discounts to loyal customers in order to keep their business, but it could be better financially to go with a minor company who could offer better coverage.

Everyone is trying to save money these days and it might sound like a good idea to make monthly payments for scooter or moped insurance, however, an insured is not going to be saving money but rather spending more. This is because insurance companies will charge a large interest fee on installments made over time, making the total payments much more than a lump sum payment in the beginning.

Saving money on scooter and moped insurance takes a little investigation in the beginning. It may take some time to find just the right policy, coverage and premiums, but it will be well worth the extra effort when one is saving money on their new two-wheeled transportation that is saving them money at the gas pumps.
