Research shows that an auto can be stolen within 20 seconds. Auto theft can occur to anybody. Vehicle thieves are all out both for new and old vehicles including the parts. When leaving the car take the car keys with you all the time. Never leave them within the auto. Believe it or not almost 20% of cars stolen had keys left inside the vehicles. Always lock the car all the time because unlocked vehicles are usually the easy targets. When parking, it is recommended to park in a well lighted place and if possible near the stores or other business establishments. Do not park in lots that are neglected, particularly in the evening. Learn to park the car with the wheels turned sideways whether it is at the driveway, parking lot or curb. Another is to administer the emergency brake whenever you park. These steps make it difficult for a vehicle to be stolen away by car thieves.
Also take all important things such as cameras, money or video games and others with you when leaving your auto. Avoid leaving any important items visible as temptation. It is also not a good to hide a spare set of keys beneath the car in a magnetic key box, because car thieves can easily locate them. Always close the windows properly and dont leave any opening. Always keep your auto registration and documents at home to avoid thieves from selling the vehicle easily. You can also etch the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) within the window and other primary parts of the car. This deters auto thieves as it aids the police to track a stolen vehicle faster.
