What To Consider When You're Moving Across Country Without A Job

It's the American dream, right? Packing up your bags

, heading out west (or out east) to the big city and search for the job of your dreams. Of course, like most American dreams, the nuts and bolts of such an expedition are always much tougher--and more expensive--than you first imagine. But for many people out of work, or in dead-end jobs in economically depressed regions, simply leaving town and settling somewhere else feels like the only possible step forward. If you are planning on moving across the country without a job secured, you will want to make sure you are as prepared as possible and have thoroughly researched long distance moving companies. Here are a few key pointers to keep in mind as you consider this step.

If you don't have helpful contacts in an area, even if it's someone who can clue you in about the local culture, think carefully about whether it is right for you. There are many social-networking sites online that can help you make extended contacts through people you don't immediately know.

Consider carefully the cost of relocation. Do you have a lot of expensive furniture? How much could you pack into your car? Since some jobs will provide some money for moving expenses, you might be better off flying out to an area, living in a hotel or with a friend, and trying to find a quality job before moving all your belongings with you. Moving expenses are easy to underestimate, so make sure you have a good idea about exactly what it will cost before you start packing up any boxes. Contact multiple long distance moving companies to get their rates.

Moving can be tough, especially when you don't have the security of a job. But economies are usually depressed in regions, so changing
