What Are Dental Implants?

In medical definition, dental implants refers to metal or Titanium screws that can

be placed in the bone and after a very short period of which it is consider to heal, this depends mostly on the local and systemic factors. When the implant is ready a crown or bridge can be placed on it. This replacement of teeth is very important because there is no damage to the adjacent tooth or teeth; the procedure is also very effective under local anesthesia.

The postoperative pain and swelling is very little and does not last for long. This makes the treatment ideal for everybody not taking age or sex into consideration. It is also very effective because it offers a good success rate when the patient follows certain advice from the dentist.

Early in the 1960s, scientist by name Branemark and his co-workers working in the University of Gutenberg started developing a novel implant that for clinical operations largely depended on direct bone anchorage; it was then called Osseo integration

Once the Osseo integration has taken placed, a replacement tooth can be secured to the top of the implant. Where by this recent tooth can look, feel and perform just like a denture tooth. This one is good because it is possible for it to used multiple implants to support a denture or even a bridge meaning that this treatment can be very effective not only for one tooth but for many in one mouth.

Here are some of the implant systems that are often used in this practice; 3i, Strauman ,Astra, Nobel Biocare, IMTEC minimplant systems.

We have a very few different procedures when we are taking of implants, they can usually be sum up by putting them into the various stages and categories as found below.

The first of them is the Immediate Restoration: This restoration is inserted within 48 hours of the implant placement but not in the occlusion that has to do with the opposing dentition.

The second one is the Immediate Loading: This restoration is placed in occlusion with the opposing dentition within 48 hours of the implant placement. Furthermore we have Conventional Loading where in the prosthesis is attached in a second procedure after a healing of 3 to 6 months.

We have Early Loading, with this one a restoration in contact with the opposing dentition which is placed at least 48 hours after implant placements and it is not supposed to be later than three months afterwards. Lastly we see Delayed Loading; here the prosthesis takes place in the second procedure comes up some times later than the conventional healing time period of 3 to 6 months.

It is also very important to note that dental implants can literally change people's lives, offering them the chance of a new smile and a new, fantastic facial enhancement. With the advancement in technology improving and methods also improving rapidly, dental implants are also rapidly becoming a solution for many people that can really benefit from this type of cosmetic surgery and facial rejuvenation.
