Children, just like adults do suffer from anxiety, and anxiety can really wreck havoc in your child's life. As a parent, nothing compares to the feeling of helplessness that comes with seeing your child in pain and not being able to help them. If your child is suffering from anxiety, learn what could be causing that anxiety, then you will be in a better position to get help for your child.

Here are the possible causes of anxiety on children:

Fear of what they do not know or sudden changes. Like grownups, children fear what they do not know. Changes in what they know or are used to can make children very anxious, like a new helper or making friends in a new school and things like that. Small kids may go through separation anxiety, for instance like when you have to leave them for work or something like that. In this instance, they may cry and refuse to let you go when you hug them and so forth. A behavior like this is perfectly acceptable for a young child, however it is not appropriate for a teenager for example.

If your child has gone through a bad experience, they may believe that certain situations should be feared or that they are dangerous. This could include anything from being bitten by a dog which is something caused them harm and pain to a situation that caused a lot of embarrassment.

If your child is having problems at school, whether they are learning problems or not being able to perform well in school or something social that involves your child not being able to make friends or being bullied at school, your child will definitely be anxious.

Problems in the home can cause your child to have anxiety. This could be problems related to parents fighting a lot, or a case when parents have separated or divorced. Children tend to internalize these feelings and believe that they had something to do with it or that they were involved somehow.

Children may learn to be over anxious because they see their parents being over anxious themselves.

These are all possible causes for anxiety, and children tend to act out when they get anxious. Some situations do call for child anxiety, however in cases of extreme anxiety, you need to look at the possibility of your child having an anxiety disorder. The sooner this problem is diagnosed, the sooner your child can get the help they need.
