The Law On Motorhome Insurance

As a result of the current economic climate, financial pressures are causing 3 in

4 drivers to search for ways to reduce their motorhome insurance costs. However, your vehicle must be insured at all times if it is registered in your name, unless the vehicle has been declared as off the road and has a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) with the DVLA.

Starting from 20th June 2011, all drivers must be insured. Drivers that are not insured will not be on the Motor Insurance Database (MID) and could face receiving a warning letter, along with a 100 fixed penalty fine, wheel clamping or court prosecution, which could lead to an even bigger fine. Drivers must also ensure that their vehicle has been declared as off the road with a SORN notice if they are not using it on the road.

The Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) scheme uses the Motor Insurance Database to identify uninsured vehicles. The scheme helps police to identify uninsured vehicles and to seize around 500 vehicles that are not insured a day.

Motorhome users can now use the Motor Insurance Database to check whether or not their vehicle is registered. Checking whether or not your vehicle is registered is quick and easy. All you need to do is log onto the Motorhome Insurance Database website, which can be located at www.askMID.com.

Once you have logged onto the MID website, you just simply follow the instructions provided in order for you to be able to quickly confirm that your vehicle insurance details have been entered. A link to the page where you can check whether or not your vehicle is insured is provided on the main page of the MID website.

Once you have entered the details required to check your vehicle, you simply press enter and you will be told whether or not a policy for your vehicle has been recorded on the system. Drivers can also declare their vehicle as off the road with a SORN notice if they have not already done so by using the links provided on the main page of the MID website.

Ensuring that your vehicle is registered on the Motor Insurance Database will enable you to stay legal and stay insured.
