subject: Carolina Towns: How To Select And Relocate To Your Own Best Place by:Robert Bencivenga [print this page]

It looks like whenever I'm at the magazine shelf I notice another list of the "Top Ten Towns for Boomers," or the "Ten Most Affordable Retirement Places," or the "Best Places for Paper Airplane Lovers." You get the idea. Any which way, it is always the same places, and to this day I don't understand the way they are selected. What makes these Carolina towns the finest? Nobody ever questions, "What's important to me in regarding a town for my Finest Place?" The suitable question is, "What would make a Carolina town your own perfect place?"

When I began looking at towns in South and North Carolina for resettling there with my family, I recognized after I went through every one of the "Best Places" lists that I even then was not aware what "Best Place" signified to me. So, I compiled a listing of the crucial queries to pose when evaluating a new area. With it, I was able to cut through all the media gloss and hype surrounding the true information.

Given underneath is a section of a handful of the things I looked at prior to coming to a decision if a Carolina town is one I would want to reside in, and whether or not it qualifies as a town for my individual Best Place list:

1. Climate: One of the essential factors to bear in mind is climate. Although we're taking into account just a pair of states here, the middle regions of the Carolina's have the highest temperature and often feel the most sultry, while along the coastline you will have more of a breeze. The mountains have the lowest temperatures, and in the winter you'll receive a little snow and ice.

2. Size And Pace: If big cities or suburban extensions are not to your liking, think about a more peaceful locality and be willing to drive a bit further for whatever you want. There are many attractive little spots "outside of a Carolina town," having access to all you'll need, should you be prepared to drive a bit to get there.

3. Growth Rate: At what speed is the locality expanding, and is necessary infrastructure on hand for expansion? Can your dull neighborhood develop into an active thoroughfare? In which manner will the growth affect your everyday commute and shopping?

4. Airports: On the basis of the extent of your flying this may be a key question. There are numerous less important airports throughout the Carolinas, a number of which have connecting flights to larger airports. Almost all of our towns are within an hour of a major airport.

5. Housing Costs: Average housing costs vary greatly right through the Carolinas. Selecting one town over a second, even less than 20 miles of each other could make a huge difference.

I hope these 5 points on how to pick your ideal destinations, give you an excellent beginning, deciding on what's important to you. Don't make your choice on the basis of other individual's criteria. There's but one way to know what Carolina town is perfect for you, and that is by asking the appropriate questions and investigating. Are you ready to find your own Ideal Place in the Carolinas?!
