subject: Fund Raisers and Involving Parents [print this page] Getting parents involved in school fundraisers can be a difficult task but there are things you can do to make your school's fundraisers more successful. Parental involvement is the key to any fundraiser's success.
The most important way to get parents involved is to let them know what is going on. Sometimes parents would like to get involved but don't know how and aren't asked to help. Get the word out and let parents know exactly what you are looking for. Let them know ahead of time that there will be a fundraiser, how long it will last, what your goal is, what the funds will be used for, etc.
Another way to get parents more involved in school fundraisers is to get the children excited. When the kids are excited about what they are selling, they go home and share that excitement with their parents. Have an assembly to promote the fundraiser. Offer incentive prizes to everyone that participates. Offer grand prizes for the top sellers or have a drawing for everyone that sells over a certain amount. The additional cost of the prizes is offset by the additional sales the contest inspires.
Get parents involved by keeping the fundraiser simple. Parents are more likely to get involved in selling for their children if less is required of them. For example, parents are more likely to take chocolate bars to work and set them out than they are walking around asking people to buy something out of a catalog then having to deliver the items at a later date.
