. pylori">Helicobacter pylori, commonly known as H. pylori, is a bacterium found in the stomach. It is present in almost half of the worlds population. This bacterium has the ability to cause various problems such as ulcers, digestive problems and even stomach cancer. However, the infections caused by Helicobacter pylori can be cured. Here are some of the treatments for H. pylori.

Treatment for H. Pylori

1.Triple therapy is one of the best treatments available in treating H. pylori. The current recommended treatment in clearing H pylori from the stomach is a combination of drugs, such as clarithromycin, amoxicillin and metronidazole, with a proton pump inhibitor, taken for a period of two weeks.

2.A recent study has indicated that levofloxacin when combined with clarithromycin and omeprazole shows a higher success rate in eradicating the H. pylori bacterium. Helicobacter pylori treatment is mostly given to patients who are allergic to penicillin.

3.Quadruple therapy, consisting of the amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole as well as omeprazole, helps remove the bacterium with a success rate of as much as 94%.

4.A second-line treatment based on levofloxacin taken for a period of ten days also helps in clearing infections caused by H. pylori in as many as 85% of patients.

5.Apart from these, some dietary changes also help treat infections caused by Helicobacter pylori. Dairy products and berry juice provide a modest bacteriostatic effect on the bacterium. Furthermore, increasing the intake of Vitamin C especially with the treatment regimen consisting of bismuth, metronidazole and amoxicillin also increases the eradication rate of the bacterium.
