Stories To Tell Your Grandchildren - The Hen Night

One of the most glorious moments in a womans life is the day that she gets married. Now, with that glory comes a big change - one has to become more responsible, more down to earth. A proper way to mark this transition is to throw her a great hen party. Dont save any effort, as this is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event, and should result in some wonderful memories.

Such a party should be planned in time, as certain occasion-appropriate items take a while to put together. For example, a T-shirt especially marked for the occasion, on which friends can write advice, wise quotes or just sign their names - the bride-to-be will surely appreciate such a gesture. If you have the time and energy to organize it, a Memento Book is sure to touch a sensitive cord. It can be put together by digging up old photos covering the important points of her life, adding a few funny stories, drawings etc. and presenting it to her in the first part of the gathering, before things get out of hand; or, in a more adventurous variant, it can be filled in as the night progresses, with the help of an instant camera.

For added fun, dont hang about the house too long, and start for those pubs, where it is likely you will find plenty of men to make light-hearted fun of. Make lists of dares that you can go through one at a time or make a competition of it; if you feel adventurous, buy a set of scratch-a-dare cards, and put your fate in the hands of Lady Luck - will you get the "get a bald man to let you kiss his head" or the "use the cheesiest line in the book on a man in uniform"?

Go all out by dressing up to the event - put a special sash on top of your outfit, get a set of badges especially inscribed for the occasion (Foxy Lady, Wild Child), adorn your head with a pair of boppers and your thigh with a frilly garter. Make it clear to everyone that youre friends with a hen that will soon leave the coop.

In the end, the best part about a hen party is that the bride-to-be gets to party as wildly as she wants with her closest girlfriends, to reminisce and look at how wonderful her life has been so far, while getting ready to move on to a different status as a married woman. So make sure that special girl feels surrounded by love and friendship, let her know you will be there with her through thick and thin, and above all enjoy the fun!
