In some countries it is still referred to as the Australian ballot, however Sydney was even the very first region in Australia to use this method of voting. And on the issue of voting Australia was only the second country to permit women the right to express their opinions publically by voting.

Swimming is one of the most popular activities that occur on a daily basis in Australia, yet you probably didnt know that for a period of around seventy-five years or so from the mid 1800's until the early 1900's it was against the law to swim at public beaches during the day. The explanation for this law is unknown however so many years later its wonderful that this law has been repealed and that Aussies can enjoy their beach time even during the day.

Bob Hawke gained his fame by guzzling two and a half pints of beer in eleven seconds and this got him a place within the Guinness Book of World Records, however thats not all that this famous Aussie did seeing as he later became the Prime Minister of Australia. One has to wonder if this was without regards to his drinking skills or because of them, especially when one views a quote by Sir John Robertson, who was a 5 time Premier of New South Wales and was said to have drunk a pint of rum first thing each morning for 35 years. When asked about this he said, none of the men who have left footprints in this country have been cold water men.

There are quite a few entertaining facts about Sydney and the entire country of Australia. And while it is a region that is known for its good times, spirits and relaxed attitude it has also been a leader in numerous world issues.
