subject: Spotting A Boy Or Girl [print this page]

There is something magical about a newborn that draws the attention of people in to take a look at the special little bundles that are wrapped up in their mothers arms. Whenever they are out in public babies are the center of attention and bring in all kinds of friendly passersby to meet them and say hello. One of the best things about being a parent is having the ability to shower your child with clothing and accessories that are used to dress them up and show them off.

Proud parents are notorious for taking pictures of their infant and showing their friends, coworkers, and extended family members the snapshots of their pride and joy. Little girls in particular must be distinguished from the boys that look very similar to them when they are first born and have very little hair and no way to set them apart from other babies.

Aside from the brightly colored gowns that are tied with ribbon, some mothers give their tiny girls baby headbands that are decorated with a flower and are made of elastic so that they stretch over the child's head and stay in place without harming tender young infant. Even without hair it is easy to spot a little girl that is adorned with a headband. When all wrapped up in a blanket and resting peacefully in the arms of an adult it can be difficult to know off hand whether a child is a boy or a girl. With the right accessories strangers are able to complement the little tikes and not embarrass themselves by referring to a she as a he.

When summer is over and the colder weather approaches women can still help onlookers to know that their child is a female. By protecting the delicate skin of their loved one from the elements and still keeping them in fashion, mothers are completing an outfit that is hidden under a warm coat with wool crochet baby hats that are both functional and beautiful to give their baby the proper protection from the cooler temperatures.

The knitted hats are helpful in keeping the smallest baby warm and snuggled up and have been a popular accessory for both boys and girls for many years. To help differentiate the boys and girls, colors and patterns can be crocheted into the wool that are easily distinguished from one gender to the other, and for girls the addition of a flower of other knitted design can help those that are still confused about the sex of the infant to correctly identify a little fellow from a small princess.
