Graphic Designers Provide Eye-catching Appeal

There once was a time when the public's main source of information and entertainment was printed. During the Great Depression it moved over to radio. After World War II, it moved on to TV. With the new millennium everyone is going on to the World Wide Web. This is a good thing for the web developer pursuing Online Instructional Technology Degrees. They are the people who are creating all those virtually millions of web sites out there.

Web developers are the people responsible for web site creation. Using software languages and tools, they create applications, production and implementation of a site. They determine the information contained and organized, as well as the visual appearance of web sites.

As it happens, most web developers started out when they were young and created their own web sites, blogs or page on a social network. Usually, the creative ones get noticed. Also, the youngsters suddenly realize they can make a career of this after pursuing Online Instructional Technology Degrees.

One can usually start with two years at an online college. Online schools are rapidly becoming the preferred way of learning, not only because of the convenience of learning from home, but also because of the on-hand experience one gets applying those newly learned techniques to desktop or laptop. Recommended courses usually include the basics on computer science, software languages such as ASP, JSP, JavaScript, HTML or similar packages. A student should also take courses in commercial writing/SEO, layout/design and data base management. The goal is to develop a good portfolio, showing the best sites one has ever worked on.

Even after getting a job, a designer shouldn't be surprised if they keep on going back for more online courses. One does this in order to keep up to date on the latest software/design developments or just to learn something their latest project requires, but that they didn't take courses for. In fact, while one can usually get work after a two year degree, many developers end up with Bachelors in Computer Science because of all they learn.

Where the occupation comes up against its biggest obstacle is what makes it so easy to enter. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 25% of all developers are freelancers, and their competition is usually the next generation of kids coming up. As such it's an extremely cut throat market, particularly in the current economy.

Because of this economy, it's not uncommon for a young developer to start, freelance, at $10.00 an hour. That's why it probably wouldn't hurt for a student to also take a course or two in self-marketing and networking. With that kind of savvy and some successful projects under one's belt, the average developer can make $60,000 a year. Top level developers can command $100 an hour.
