What you may have missed is that the content you provide on your site needs to have informational authority. What does that mean? It means that Google is scanning your text like a human in order to answer specific web queries - top to bottom, left to right, reading and determining if your content has the authoritative answer.
Now, you might have thought that back-links and pagerank really are the core measures for Google to rank your site. But, there are examples of sites that have a page rank of 0 and are still ranked #1 in the search results. These examples answer specific niche keyword questions in a way that a human would.

In fact, one great technique to use is to list all of the possible questions that someone might ask about your content and then write your pages that contain the answers. Google and Yahoo will eat your pages up!
What this shows is that getting ranked high in Google may not be as difficult as you think if you build your pages in a human readable, authoritative manner. Want a perfect example? Just looking at how Wikipedia is structured will clue you in on what you need to do.
There's no telling how long it will take Google to get you to a top 10 position, but, be patient you should be able to build niche sites that capitalize on this and find ways on how make money easier than before.
