Are you looking for ways to work from home? If you are you're in a crowded group of thousands of people who do so every day. Before you get started here are a few things to keep in mind.

Are you just wanting a job or do you want to try to build a long-term business? This is an important consideration of because it will help you decide which direction to go.

Many stay-at-home jobs allow you to work your own schedule and hours, but others may require you to be consistent on when you work. If you are a student or mom with a schedule that constantly changes every day you will need to consider this factor.

Are you looking for a full time opportunity or just a part time income? If you're wanting to quit your job or are facing a lay-off then you'll need to find home employment that has the potential to replace your income.

However, if you just need to make enough to pay off some credit cards or are trying to save for a vacation then the choice you make will be different.

You'll also need to consider whether you will invest any money for home based employment. Most business opportunities will require some type of initial investment and perhaps even monthly fees. But most online jobs should not cost you anything.

Whether you're looking for a job or a business you also should ask the question, "What am I interested in?" You're chances of sticking with something increase if you actually like the product or service.

Another great item to consider is how will you stand out from the crowd? The competition is stiff on the internet so whether you're working for someone or promoting your own product or service you'll have to be very good.

The obvious answer to this is that you'll need to become an expert at whatever you do. This is known as attraction marketing and is all about gaining the confidence of those who will help you succeed.

If you work for someone else chances are you will never be seen since it's online. Your work will have to be very good, unique and timely. The better you do the more work you'll get.

If you're promoting your own business you'll get more customers if they see you as an industry leader. You will need to be able to brand yourself in this manner.

Finally, you'll need to consider this question: Do I have the work ethic to work at home? This is a big one to think about beforehand.

Many people don't have the discipline to do it and therefore fail very quickly. Be honest with yourself here. If you work best with co-workers and a boss this might not be for you.
