Are All Baby Formulas The Same?

Trying to decide which baby formula is best for your baby can be quite confusing, with so many options available. Although the preferred method of feeding babies is breast milk, some babies simply dont tolerate it and the mother must choose a formula. Often times, babies need formula as a supplement to breast milk for added nutritional value. Whatever the reason, if your doctor recommends formula for your baby, its important to choose the one that is right for your babys needs.

It should be comforting to most mothers that the US government has strict nutritional regulations on formula in the US, so she is guaranteed to meet her babys nutritional needs with the many varieties of formula available. Figuring out which one will work for your baby, that can be a little difficult. There are varieties for allergies and other health issues, so its important to experiment until you find the one that allows your baby to be comfortable and happy. Cows milk based formula is by far the most popular type of baby formula. It is far preferred by mothers whose babies wont take breast milk.

Gentle formula is great for babies who experience a little discomfort with cows milk as it contains less lactose. There is also Lactose-free for those babies with lactose intolerance. For babies with acid reflux, theres added rice starch formula. Soy formula is great for babies with milk protein allergies and is becoming more popular. There is also special high-calorie formula for premature babies to help meet their unique nutritional needs. Elemental formulas are for those with soy and milk allergies; while amino acid based formulas are for those with soy and milk allergies that wont tolerate elemental. Its easy to see why choosing the right baby formula could be confusing. The most important thing is to partner with your doctor and pay attention to babys reaction to the new formula.
