Temporary positions can also lead to permanent work so this is an option that is worth considering.

You can always use the direct approach, say you are unemployed builder you could make a list of suitable companies and then send them a CV with an accompanying letter asking if there are any positions available.

CV's take some time to prepare a professional looking CV, a good CV is a must. Make sure that your CV details all your skills, experience and qualifications. The CV should also include all of you previous work and educational back ground work, including all the dates. Try to be as accurate as possible with the information but most importantly be honest. Include a section that describes your self, your interests, hobbies and you attributes. If you are good at something include it on you CV.
