Shazdeh Garden is a fine example of the ancient Persian gardens which were well known for their beauty and layout. It is located on the outskirts of Mahan which is at Kerman province. Referred to as the Prince's Garden, it is almost 35 km away from the city of Mahan which you can see on your trip to Iran.

It stretches over an area of 5.5 hectares and is fairly rectangular in shape. An imposing wall runs all around the place. You can enter the garden compound at the lower end which has a gate and an entrance structure. When you travel toward the upper end, you will come across a residential structure which is two-storied.

A Garden in Persian Style

Water fountains can be seen over the land flowing from the upper ends toward lower ends on a water cascade style at Shazdeh Garden. These fountains look very beautiful and have been provided impetus by the natural incline of the place. The clever use of the natural climate of the land can be seen in this garden which is the primary aspect of every Persian garden.

This place has been dedicated to Abdolhamid Mirza Naserodolleh, who was a governor during the rule of the Qajar dynasty. He was in power for eleven years, through which the garden was built. However, it could not be completed due to the death of the governor during the 1890s.

Layout of the Garden

You will love this green oasis in the midst of the vast desert land. Shazdeh Garden complex has several pavilions along with a central canal. There was originally a building leading from the pavilions which has long since been ruined. You will love the aerial view of this garden complex. There are a number of pools in front of a palatial building. A Prince was rumored to spend his summers here. This place has been converted to a restaurant today.

Renovation Work

A lot of renovation work has been done till date in Shazdeh Garden. The buildings in the area were greatly modified in 1991 as a part of the commemoration ceremony of Khaju ye Kermani. Many tourists traveled to Mahan to enjoy the celebrations. A traditional guest house was constructed for this purpose. You too will get pleasure during your trip to Iran when you see the greenery in this garden.
