Activities to Inspire Your Children to Stay Active

Some activities to consider for your children to dive into are playing outside whenever possible, engaging in any video games that encourage physical play such as the very popular Nintendo Wii programs and taking part in any exercise videos that are available for children. Do not forget all the household chores that your children can help around the house with that also encourage movement such as cutting grass, shoveling snow, carrying laundry filled baskets, vacuuming, raking leaves, taking out the trash, helping store items in an attic or basement and cleaning out the shed or garage. Children are not helpless creatures, and they only way they learn how to be productive adults is by what you instill in them as an early age. Having weekly chore responsibilities is good for them to stay active as well as teaching them how to take care of themselves. Some other activities would be any board games that are ones that force you to get up and move around to win such as the game Twister. Hopscotch can be played in any garage, basement or hallway with some tape to outline the squares and a treasure hunt throughout the house is the perfect way to spend a rainy day and encourage them to use their minds. Make it a routine that one or two weeknights you have family game night or at a specific time after school they go play out or indoors. When it becomes a habit it is something will continue to do the rest of their lives and when you join in on the fun! This not only gives you time to be active as well, but time to enjoy the wonderful family you have created also.
