Shiv Mandir: A Grandiose Display Of Hindu Religion And Culture

The rapidly evolving city of Bangalore is the capital of the state of Karnataka. It is one of the oldest cities in India dating back to 900 CE. Its rapid development can be attributed to significant advancements during British rule making it the capital of the South Indian colonial empire. Today it is considered the silicone valley of India home to major IT, aerospace and defence firms. As a result it has become one of the most developed cities and the third largest in India.

Hinduism is the most prominent religion, philosophical and cultural system throughout India. Originating from the Indian sub continent it can be divided into Sruti (revealed) and Smriti (remembered) scripture which laid the foundation for Hindu beliefs.

This diverse religion is considered the third oldest in the world with over a billion devotees. It has influenced many aspects of Indian life such as architecture, food (many Hindus are vegetarian) and perform daily rituals.

The Shiv Mandir in Bangalore was established in 1995 and is one of many dotted around the world as a sign of true devotion to the Hindu gods. The Shiv Mandir was built as a dedication to the god Shiva. It is open to both visitors and devotees; it is a prime showcase of ambitious yet inspired architecture and design merged with religious beliefs and philosophies.
