Plans to offer a large number of cheap Olympics and Paralympics tickets during London 2012 have been scrapped recently as organisers failed to raise adequate funds to cover the costs required.
Organisers are hoping to bring in 441 million pounds from the sale of around 10 million Olympic and Paralympics ticket sales. They are now going back on a promise that all tickets bar two million were to be priced at either 50 or less and the other promise of 4.3 tickets to be priced at 20 or less has also been scrapped.
Organisers for London 2012 are now due to announce a ticket policy which includes pricing for most of the events; this has been approved by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) this week.
It has been suggested that officials have estimated that 75 per cent of tickets will now be available for purchase by the general public. The remaining tickets will be taken up by committee members, sponsors and hospitality and travel packages.
The new plan is to price tickets for the most sought after events including the opening and closing ceremonies and swimming and athletics higher with just a few cheaper tickets available for poor quality seats. Paralympics events are expected to be much more affordable, which is good news for the many dedicated fans and supporters hoping to attend the games. Tickets for the Paralympics games are due to go on sale right at the start of next year.
Recently the IOC president visited sites in London and Stratford to take a look at the venues in order to check progress. The venues will be under much scrutiny and the standards will be high.
