Article Marketing: Is Bum Marketing The Holy Grail? by:Samantha Milner

A lot of online businessmen and enterprising webmasters know the value of article marketing. By writing unique, highly informative, and well written articles and by submitting them to the many article directories in the World Wide Web, a website will be able to garner a lot of back links which can only mean well for its page rank, and eventually, its search engine results page (SERP) position.

Article Marketing: The Online Businessman's Number One Weapon

Think of it this way: once an article is submitted to an article directory, it can get picked up by many online and offline publications. And since such an article cannot be reprinted without including the accompanying resource box (which can and should include a link to your website), you'd be able to expose your URL to a lot of people.

A lot!

But here's the thing: article marketing is a commitment. Online businessmen and webmasters should make it a point to submit articles as regularly as possible. And by "regularly," I mean 3 to 4 articles per week. This is a surefire way for websites to remain competitive.

The One Article Wonder System

But what if you don't have the time to write and submit articles that often?

Is there a simpler way to do things?

You're in luck! There is actually a relatively new method that promises to place your website in the first page of SERPs just by submitting one article - yes, just ONE article - to one, two or three article directories.

This method is called Bum Marketing, and it was conceptualized by an innovative online marketer named Travis Sago. When it was first released towards the end of 2006, it made quite an impact in the world of eCommerce, and for good reasons at that.

So what is Bum Marketing and how, exactly, does it work?

Bum Marketing In A Nutshell

Bum Marketing begins with the selection of the right keywords. Nothing new you might say? Think again. We're not just looking for any keywords. We're looking for a phrase that people actually use to search for information online, where such phrase commands a good number of searches but is offered by only a few websites.

Travis Sago actually created a formula for it. Try to find a key phrase that gets at least 12,000 searches per day but is being catered to by only 5,000 web pages or less. The numbers given, however, can be significantly bigger but they should not lose the proportion apparent above.

For example, you have chosen the topic "dog training." The topic commands thousands upon thousands of searches per day. However, the exact keywords of "dog training" fetches millions of web pages in the search engines.

The topic is too general. If you use the keywords as they are, you won't be able to get a lot of visitors for your website.

The solution? You have to narrow it down.

"How to train your dog to fetch the newspaper," the exact key phrase, fetches a mere 300,000 web pages. This number is easy to dominate!

The next thing you have to do is to write an article that will contain the key phrase above. The key phrase should appear at least 3 times for every 100 words of text. A 250 to 1,000 word article will suffice.

Then, all you have to do is to submit the article to a couple of article directories with high page ranks. This single article is sure to generate positive effects for your website. In a matter of a few days, you can expect your web page to appear prominently in Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines.

Such is the power of Bum Marketing. And this is the reason why Bum Marketing has been labeled as "article marketing on crack!"
