Construction began in 1889 and Vanderbilt knew what he wanted when he hired the architectural master of New York's Central Park to help in designing it. This home is filled with antiques and art that will amaze you. You can even have a look at Napoleon Bonaparte's chess set. This mansion is a must see for any one traveling though Asheville.

Including camping and fishing into your trip is a must if you plan to be in the area of the Great Smoky Mountains. You might go hiking for miles and miles into untouched nature. You may even sleep under the stars and listen to the night sounds. Camping in the Great Smoky National Park will be an escape into a natural world that seems to have no boundaries.

Most everyone you meet in North Carolina can tell you a thing or two about the Cherokee Reservation. It is actually now the home of Harrahs, one of the biggest casinos on the east coast. You will have that and many more cool things to do inside Cherokee. The food and shopping are abundant. Meet the native Cherokee Indians in person and you might learn some of the history of the Cherokee tribe, like the story of the Trail of Tears.

Right outside of Cherokee, you can go on to Maggie Valley. This is where you find one of the greatest amusement parks ever, Ghost Town in the Sky. It is set in the mountainside and you ride chairlifts up to it. You can ride the Gunslinger Swings that seem to swing you out off the side of Buck Mountain. Watch live re-enactments of the old western gun fights, saloons and all. This is one place where you will have a blast. Make sure to also take the kids to Santas Land as well. This theme park not too far from Ghost Town and will be a delight for the kids.
