subject: Families Need To Save Money - 10 Ways For Parents To Save Money In 2010 [print this page] The stressed economy has affected most people in one way or another and now we are moving into a new year with financial uncertainties remaining. We don't know when jobs will be plentiful or when salaries might increase but we do know parents still have to take care of their children. A stressed finance situation can be hard on a marriage and hard for children to understand why their family has made changes or put off a vacation. Below are 10 ways for parents to save money this year. Hopefully these can help your family.
1.Clip coupons & use them
Using coupons for items that would normally be purchased can save money at the grocery store. Also, use the coupons on a day at a store that has double coupon day.
2.Find free events
Read local magazines/newspapers and watch the news to find fun activities for the family to enjoy that are free. Some things you may find are outdoor movies, special events at parks, and bring a can of food and get in free night at a local sporting event.
3.Do activities that are always free
Great ideas include: going to a park, taking a walk on a nature trail, spending a day at a public beach or making a trip to the library for new books a fun adventure.
4.Cut back spending on clothes
Be creative when looking in your own closet and make do with what you have. As for kids, you probably have to buy clothes so be smart about it and use consignment stores or only shop with store coupons.
5.Simplify
This is not the year to buy every kitchen gadget that you see in a catalog. Think about such purchases as, "we have been living without it, do we really need it to survive?"
6.Try off-brands
Many foods and household needs have a store-brand that is worth trying. You will be surprised at how much you can save.
7.Birthday control
Have children birthday parties at home or at a park. Make your own cake and have simple food. Tell friends/family that you're having them over for dinner instead of exchanging gifts.
8.Visit a Dollar Store
If your children are young, visit a dollar store to get them a few new things to play with. They will certainly have bubbles and such that can put a smile on a child's face.
9.Cut back on vehicle gas
Group errands together and try to carpool with other parents for your kid's activities and school.
10.Do things yourself
Cut your grass, plant flowers, rake leaves, try to fix the toilet yourself. Not only will you save money, you just may feel good about yourself!
