Buying Cheap Trendy Shades Online

More and more people are finding that a good pair of shades need to be part of their daily healthy routine. Why? The damage that harmful Ultraviolet rays can do to your eyes can be permanent, so it is important that people wear sunglasses that block UVA and UVB rays. Of course, the main reason that a lot of people buy this protective eye wear is for style. There are millions of different styles, brands, sizes and shapes of shades available, especially when you search on the Internet for them. Even though they are more popular today than they ever have been, sunglasses in some form have been around for almost a thousand years, that we know of. Sunglasses as we know them today were invented between 1268 and 1289.

The Roman emperor Nero made sunglasses for watching gladiator competitions by using polished light green gems held up to his eyes. Before 1430, smoky quartz was used by Judges in the Courts of China to hide any expression in their eyes. Prescription sunglasses were developed in Italy in that same year. In the mid 18th century, James Avscough developed blue and green corrective lenses. This was the beginning of using sunglasses for also correcting optical maladies.

Until 1730 when Edward Scarlett invented side pieces, there were always issues with keeping the corrective shades propped on the nose. Frames had been made of bones, leather and metal. The side pieces that were first invented were silk ribbons that looped around the ears. The Chinese, instead of making loops for around the ears, used small ceramic weights at the ends of the ribbons. And of course, in 1780, Benjamin Franklin invented the bifocal lens.

In 1929, Sam Fosters Foster Grants were the first mass produced sunglasses, starting the ongoing trend of using sunglasses as fashion statements that were also functional, too. Bausch & Lomb developed sunglasses in the 1930s for the Army Air Corps that reduced high altitude sun glare for pilots. These are still super popular today, and are known as aviator style shades. They were dark green tinted sunglasses that absorbed light through the yellow spectrum.

In 1936 the Polaroid filter was invented, which is when wearing sunglasses really became en vogue. Movie stars started wearing them to hide and disguise themselves, and they also wore them of course for fashion reasons, which permanently put shades on the map as an absolutely necessary accessory for many people for decades to follow.
