The Fine Country - Singapore

Every time when I see a person spitting gums or throwing garbage randomly on the street, I cannot help thinking of Singapore. Then, I continue to imagine that if this person were in Singapore, he must be whipped for many times and be fined a lot of money.

Yes, this is the impression of most people on Singapore which is clean because of its strict policy. On the other hand, this strict policy and the rigid execution of this policy make Singapore so respectable.

Singapore is small island country situated off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Surprisingly, it has a population consisting of Chinese, Indian, Malays, Caucasians and Asians. It also has around 42% of foreigners who work for in the service sector.

This is a country made up of 63 islands, so in order to gain more living space, land reclamation projects has been conducted for many years. Sometimes, it also involves merging two or more small islands.

Climate

Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate because it is near the equator, with the temperature ranging from 22 to 34 C. There is no distinct difference in each month or season. Thus, the good thing about it is that no matter when you have time to go, it will be the best time.

Government and politics

Singapore, officially Republic of Singapore has a political system of representative democracy. However, Freedom House ranks Singapore as not free in its Freedom in the World report and it is considered as a hybrid regime by the Economist, which means combining democratic and authoritarian elements.

Economy

Singapore was considered as a economic wonder during one period of time. It is difficult to imagine how it can become one of Four Asian Tigers with highly limited resources and unfavorable external political environment.

Singapore has one of the busiest ports in the world and the World Bank ranks it as the world's top logistics hub. Besides, dont judge a country just from its size as Singapore is the world's fourth largest foreign exchange trading centre after London, New York and Tokyo. Nowadays, it has played an important role in the worlds economy depending on its exports, manufacturing and service industry.

There are some words you can use to describe Singapores economy: innovative, open, competitive and business-friendly.

Tourism

Singapore is also one of the best tourism destinations in the world. Besides shopping and eating you may have in anywhere else, Singapore can also be a place with adventure. If you are brave enough, go to dive with sharks at Underwater World on Sentosa; if you want to relax and get some exercise, try the mountain biking around Bukit Timah; if you are curious enough, go to visit the zoo to see more animals in tropical area living in the rainforest.
