Faridkot Fort - A Blend Of Cultures, Culminating In Architectural Splendour

A city rich in culture and heritage, Amritsar, has many attractions for its visitors. Of them Faridkot Fort deserves special mention for its impressive architectural splendour and artistic beauty.

Located close to Ferozepur, Faridkot Fort came into existence 700 years ago on the initiative of Raja Mokulsi on 10 acres of elevated land. In 1775 Raja Hamir Singh reconstructed the fort, and Raja Bikram Singh added to the overall development of it in 1890. The fort is entirely made up of small bricks and lime mortar. These 20 feet ramparts and bastions are still sturdy and strong, as a result of the renovation process carried out to maintain this beautiful Rajasthani legacy.

The Punjab area being caught in Indias freedom struggle came under massive attacks, resulting in the need for strong resistant forts. But perhaps none of the other forts in the area can quite boast of the supreme interior beauty of Faridkot Fort.

Primarily European in outer structure, every aspect of the architecture of the fort has been detailed and is intricate in attention. In the inner court lies the beautiful Sheesh Mahal the prayer room of the royal family. The mirror work with concave and convex glass sheds an alluring effect together with the masterful paintings that adorn the room. The Darbar Hall is another unique feature of the fort, with its marble floors, carved wood panelling and exquisite paint and carved work on its ceilings. The motifs that are a recurrent theme in the fort and they are a proud personification of Rajasthani heritage.

The enthusiastic traveller seeking an Amritsar hotel from which this area can be easily explored, will find a hotel such as the Ista Hotel Amritsar ideal. This Amritsar luxury hotel whilst enveloping its visitors in Rajasthani and Punjab tradition also provides every kind of modern amenity, to its visitors.
