Boating On The Great Barrier Reef

Seeing the great barrier reef in Australia is up at the top of most peoples to do list.It is one of the great natural wonders in the world and there are many ways to view the beauty of this great icon.

There are a wide range of companies catering to all kinds of different ways of seeing the reef. Probably the most popular way of seeing the reef is on a day trip where you go out to the reef on a day trip from places such as cairns or port douglas and spend a couple of hours snorkelling and viewing the coral reef and abundance of fish that inhabit the coral.

These boats are well equipped and generally supply lunch and all of the instruction and equipment that you will need to enjoy your great barrier reef experience. Some of these boat companies have large pontoons moored out on the reef and also have glass bottom boats or semi submersible boats that you can view to your hearts content without even getting your feet wet. This is a great way to see the reef if you can,t swim or simply don't want to learn how to snorkel.

For divers and the more adventurous you can spend a day doing two dives or a week out on a dive boat covering a number of different areas. These trips are extremely popular and also do courses to teach you to dive if you haven't dived before. This is a good way to combine learning a new skill as well as seeing the reef.

There are also many boating activities ranging from cruises through to chartering a yacht or power boat and skippering it yourself. Most of the self skippered boat hire occurs out of airlie beach near Hamilton island and also cardwell which is two hours south of cairns.

As yuo can see there are a great many ways to see the great barrier reef.
