Chinese Opera Festival - A Taste Of China In Hong Kong!

Festive Hong Kong 2010 is a programme initiated by the Tourism Board of Hong Kong, to take Hong Kong to the world. As part of this programme, they have organized many cultural, artistic, musical and entertainment features which will take place throughout the year all across Hong Kong.

One of these events is the Chinese Opera Festival. This event spanning across 48 days, beginning on the 4th of June, goes on till the 21st of July. It has also been decided to make this event an annual one and will act as a pathway into discovering China and its unique and diverse cultures.

The Opera Festival will promote Chinese Opera styles from eight different regions, including Zhengi, Peking, Chiu Chow, Cantonese, and Puxian.

The Hong Fung Cantonese Opera Institute will showcase a unique opera titled Eternal Lament at the Palace of Eternal Life. Other star studded performances include The Legacy of Chen Yanqiu by the Peking Opera Theatre of Beijing, the Cantonese Music and Song Art Troupes Poignant Tunes, Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe of Shaoxing s A Virtuosic Showcase of Yue Opera Classics and The Puxian Opera performed by the Lisheng Opera Troupe of Fujian to name a few.

Apart from these main events, there will also be exhibitions, seminars, talks and foyer performances, most of which will be free events. An in depth and interesting grasp of Chinese theatre as well as the inherent culture can be obtained through all these events. Local theatres all over Hong Kong will play host to these many events.

Visitors to Hong Kong during this period should certainly endeavour to take in at least one performance of the Chinese Opera Festival.
