subject: Dentists - Why People Fear Visiting Them [print this page]

Dentists offer specialized dental services to both young as well as old people. They adopt both preventative measures as well as remedial or curative measures. Other specialized branches of dentistry also include attending to specific dental requirements of children, specialization in dental anesthesia, and dentistry in sedation and so on.

Services offered by a Dentist

A dentist jobs aims at lending a complete oral health care and his clinic should be well equipped with the requisite equipments. To begin with amateur dentists could start diagnosis of caries problems in infants and mothers. Proceeding one step ahead, they could provide advice regarding the diet to be followed, cleaning of teeth, consultation on fluoride treatments etc.

When it comes to pediatric dentistry, the doctor has to understand the psychology of the child and hence counseling the child plays an important part in this branch of dentistry. Many children have habits like using the pacifier or thumb sucking. These habits can be hazardous to the dental hygiene of the child and through counseling; the dentist could help the child get rid of these habits.

The dentist's job also includes repair and filling of cavities, treating other defects which have advanced severely. Dentists also treat gum diseases like gingivitis, ulcers in the gums and other periodontal diseases. Emergency dental care like a broken jaw or broken tooth, fractured tooth or knocked tooth is also attended to by many dentists. Depending on the severity of the problem and the age of the patient, different treatments are resorted to by the Dentists.

It is but true that every one of us is scared to visit a dentist, for fear of pain. But with the latest developments in the field of dentistry, pain has become a bygone thing. We would not experience any pain at all, thanks to the sophisticated equipments of the present day world. The very thought of the Dentist drilling your tooth, doing the root canal treatment is dreadful. But thanks to the introduction of the latest trends, things have become simpler and less painful for both the dentist as well as the patient. The needles used in root canal treatment are also painless. In spite of all this, we still dread the thought of visiting the dentist. This could be another reason why people postpone their visits to the dentist. Actually, postponing the visit aggravates the dental problems further and the problems could get worse if the right treatment is not taken at the right time.
