How To Keep The Christmas Spirit In Your Heart

Having a hard time keeping the Christmas Spirit alive and well in your home? Follow these five steps and watch the spirit catch on like wildfire. It all starts with you and your efforts to find and keep the spirit of Christmas. If you have it, share it. There is no happier family than one that enjoys Christmas together.

If the spirit is lacking in your household, watch it come to life when the phone rings and the kids find out that it is Santa on the line. Santa phone calls are a great way to start your season off right. When the younger children are not expecting it and Santa calls you can literally feel the spirit move. Imagine the excitement as they get to speak to Santa Clause. If anyone can get them into the spirit of Christmas, it is that jolly old fat man in the red suit. Make sure you let any older children in on it so that they can help you to build the excitement.

There is no better way to get everyone into the Christmas spirit than to get everyone into the kitchen and get them cooking. Baking cookies, cakes, and pies are a great way to make everyone happy and get them involved in the Christmas traditions that bring the season into focus. Turn on the radio and let those Christmas carols do the work for you. Encourage everyone to sing along with the Christmas classics. Print the words out on your computer and have the kids learn the words so that they can join in on the fun. Nothing brings a family together like Christmas carols and cooking.

Set aside one day right after Thanksgiving for decorating the house. Make sure you can do this when everyone can be there. Make getting the Christmas tree a family outing and let everyone have a say in what tree is picked out. Make sure the decorations are a family decision. If you have a large family, you can assign two children per room and let them decorate it using their own imaginations and creative Christmas spirit. You will be amazed at some of the wonderful things a child can do with the right materials. Display Christmas drawing and paintings in prominent places and make sure to comment on them in front of friends and family. A child who feels good about themselves and their creative Christmas talent is a child that will be in the Christmas spirit every time they see their art.
How To Keep The Christmas Spirit In Your Heart

The week of Christmas, bundle everyone up and take a nice long walk around your neighborhood. Make a video of all the beautiful Christmas decorations so that you can watch it over and over. Christmas decorations in your neighborhood are a great reminder of what a wonderful time everyone is having as they prepare for the big day. See if you can get ideas for your own yard from all the beautiful displays that you see. You can even hold your own contest. Have your children judge who has the nicest decorations on your block and have them reward that family with a plate of home made cookies. It is a great way to get everyone involved and spread some cheer.

The best way to get into the mood is to read to your children from the classic Christmas works. Spend an evening reading A Christmas Carol or one of the other great Christmas stories. Almost every town has a theater or church that will have a Christmas play every year. You can make a tradition out of going to these events every year as a family. It is a great way to get and keep the Christmas spirit in your household.
