What Are Some Of The Common Extras Your Car Insurance Company May Offer You

There are a countless number of car insurers out there offering products to Australian consumers. So how are they different? And what are the common extras a Car Insurance Company might offer you? Before I go any further,it important to determine what an extra actually is. An extra is not automatically included in your car insurance policy. Instead, it is something you have the choice of having included in your policy rather than having it automatically included. And don't forget, every feature or extra that is included in your car insurance increases the price of your premium. So excluding features you don't need and coming out with the best price is really the aim of the game.

I think the more extras that are available the better as more choice is only a good thing. If I had my way,all featured would be extras, which means that you could basically create an insurance policy to suit your needs. So what are the common extras an insurance company might offer you? Lets go through a few of the more common ones below:

NCD protection: No Claims Discount or No Claims Bonus is the same thing. It is a discount on your insurance premium for being a good driver. For instance, rating 1,which is usually gained from 5+ years with no claim, gives you a discount of 55%-65% on what you would pay if you had no rating. NCD protection means that even if you have an accident, your rating will stay the same and you will continue to benefit from a large discount despite having a crash which was your fault.

Windscreen excess reduction: If your window needs repair or replacing then you don't pay an excess which could save you anywhere from $500-$1200.The extra usually only lasts for the first windscreen claim. Any claims after the first you would have to pay an excess.

Hire Car after accident: Most comprehensive policies offer a hire car as a replacement vehicle after it is stolen but not after an accident. The hire car length is usually 7-14 days. You may be able to upgrade the hire car feature of your car insurance so that you get a hire car after an accident and also extend the length of time the insurance company will pay for your hire car.

Not all the above extras will be offered by a Car Insurance Company; some may automatically be included in your policy where as some companies may not offer them at all. Just remember that every extra you decide on having is going to add to the cost of your insurance premium. At the end of the day, your aim should be to get the cheapest insurance which covers you for everything you need. A little understanding goes a long way - good luck, and goes out and gets the policy that can't be beat.
