Facts About The Australian Gold Nuggets

Nature has been extremely generous with the Earth. There are many things which cannot be explained or the explanation offered does not cater for all tastes.

The dictionaries and the encyclopedias understand the gold nugget as a piece of pure gold found as such in nature. Australia proved to be a blessed territory regarding the discoveries. The first certified discovery took place in the 1850's at "The Welcome Stranger". The gold nugget discovered there exceeded all expectations. It was a yellow piece of about 72 kilograms. In order to make people aware of the discovery, a stone monument was erected on that very spot.

On the one hand, some scientists believe that these pieces of gold were formed deep inside the Earth as they needed a certain temperature. The circuit of water in nature helped it get more on the surface. The other explanation is exactly the opposite of the first one. These nuggets seemed to have been sheltered by reefs and they have always been on the surface. Somehow, they were so easy to be found. Nowadays it would be even easier thanks to the modern gold detectors, just that the reserve of gold nuggets seems to have found its limits.

The first gold nuggets found in the Australian history impressed through their size. Places like "The Welcome Stranger", "The Welcome", "the Hand of Faith", "The Schlemm Nugget", "The little Jack", "The Pride of Australia" have already found their well deserved place in the history books."The Welcome Stranger" is the place where the largest quantity of gold was discovered. It was the most significant gold nugget from the entire world and it was as early as 1850's. A stone monument reminds all passers-by that about 72 kilograms of pure gold were at hand, waiting to be discovered.

"The Pride of Australia" has a less fortunate story. It was already in the 1980's and researchers had already began to appreciate the rarity of these gold nuggets. Cutting it into pieces or melting it was out of question. But misfortune knocked on the door any way. The piece of gold had been displayed in a museum which was robbed later on.

At present, the statistics do not look too optimistic. Even with the entire modern technology and all the gold detectors, it is unlikely to discover any other gold nuggets. It means that the investors should continue to make transactions relying on gold bullion.
