subject: Hosting Your Children's Birthday Parties [print this page]

One aspect of having children is that you have to have birthday parties every year for them, till they are at least 12 years old. And if you have more than one child, then you have to plan as many more birthday parties as you have kids.

Planning birthday parties is a handful and they have the power to drive you insane. So what should you do to keep your sanity intact? How can you plan a party with the least bit of drama on your child's part? Here's how; first off, don't worry and waste your time with making the home spick and span and cleaning up each and every nook and cranny. Because they are kids, they don't care whether the birthday party room is clean or not; besides, five minutes in and the room will start looking like a mess.

So how can accomplish such a feat? The answer is simple, through pre-planning. Your plans don't even have to be wonderful or unique; all you need to do is give yourself some time to organize the party. The best way is to start planning at least 2 months before the actual date. This way you give yourself enough time to make all the necessary arrangements for the party.

First off, when preparing for a child's birthday party, you don't need to pay much attention to cleaning your house. You can clean it on the surface, but you don't have to wage war on the house. That's because children don't care if the house is clean or not; being messy and dirty is in their blood.

Next, count the number of guests you are going to be inviting. Invite only as many kids and friends as you think you can cater for easily. After you decide who you are going to invite, send out invitations by personally talking to the child's parents. Also inquire if their child has any particular allergies to any kind of food.

Before you start planning a birthday party you need a starting point; the party's theme is the starting point. Decide and the plan what the theme of the birthday party is going to be with your child. Let it be the child's own choice, don't force your ideas on to him or her.

After that, make a list of all the guests or kids that are going to be coming to the party. Invite only as many guests as you can handle to cater for.

Next, decide over the activities and games for the party with your child. Organize games that he or she is most excited about. Also, keep gifts for the winner of each of the activity or game. Nothing fancy, an extra goody bag would do. Limit where the activities and games take place, so as to limit the mess making it easier for you to clean up later.

Plan for different kinds of games and activities for the kids at the party. Also, keep presents for the winner of each activity or game to keep the kids interested. If you pay attention to the basic aspects of a party as mentioned above, you can rest assured that you will have the most relaxed and tension-free birthday party ever.
