Subhash Chowk at the top end of the Sadar Bazaar area has many eating-places. The road goes northwards to the bus stand and ahead to the information office. There are some pleasant walks off the main road into the forested slopes, with bright coloured modern Buddhist rock paintings. South of Gandhi Chowk is a pleasant walk to Panchpulla "" literally five bridges. Next to a small mountain stream spanned by five bridges, stands a memorial to the freedom fighter Ajit Singh, a follower of Subhash Chandra Bose. On the way to Panchpulla are the waterfalls of Satdhara , whose waters are believed to have high mica content and can cure several ailments. Just over a kilometre from Gandhi Chowk is the Subhash Baoli , another mountain spring with splendid views of the surrounding peaks. A short distance away is the old Chamba palace of Jhandri Ghat . Set amidst tall pine forests, the palace has now been converted into a hotel. North of Gandhi Chowk, going up a steep hill path for about 5 kms is the weavers" settlement at Bakrota , producing Tibetan carpets. From the Bakrota Round also you can get good mountain views.

Shopping

Buy handicrafts at the Tibetan Market which is located at Gandhi Chowk. Good buys would be carpets, jewellery, woolens, Chamba slippers, scarves and shawls. The Himachal Handicrafts Emporium is also a good place for handicraft shopping.

Activities

Dalhousie has some good trekking routes with the major one being the Khajjiar "" Chamba Khajjiar is 22 kms away from Dalhousie and the route follows a scenic climb to Kalatop 13 kms and 4-5hours of trekking time depending on your speed. Most trekkers set up camp for the night at Kalatop and start

out again next morning on the next 12 kms to Khajjiar. Spend the night again at khajjiar and set out next day for the 10kms trek to Chamba.
