Seeing Paris Like A Local

When you go to Paris for a holiday, the trend is to do all the big name things. Going to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame are all of the obvious things to do when you are in Paris. And truth be told you have to do all of these things once. But if you've already been to Paris you aren't going to do these things again. And if you are in Paris for a while, there are other things you can do apart from the all basic things that everyone knows about.

For instance, you can go to the markets and buy fresh food and produce. Paris is known for its cooking and restaurants. Obviously France is known for its cuisine and with Paris the capital of France it is also going to be the capital of French cuisine. You can really embrace it here.

Go to the markets early in the morning and check out some of the finest produce in the world. You can make some fantastic things. It is a real experience and you will feel anything like a tourist. It is a magnificent thing you can do that most people who come to Paris won't do or get to experience.

Then you have sports. If you like sports there is nothing like experiencing it in Paris. You have Stade de France which is the national stadium. If the French rugby or football side is playing a match there while you are around, you should definitely take it in. It will be one of the more unique things to do in Paris that you can experience.

Then you have club side Paris Saint-German who play in the French competition. You could catch one of their home games. They play at Parc des Princes which used to be the place where the French national side played. If PSG have a game you should definitely try and see one.

Sport is very big in Paris. Not just soccer and rugby but swimming, cycling and tennis. If you happen to be in Paris in late May and early June then you have to go and see the French Open. One of tennis' four grand slam tournaments it takes place at the Roland Garros courts in Paris. Played on the red clay, it is one of the most iconic tournaments in sport.

You can talk about sport in Paris without talking about the Tour de France. This is the biggest cycling race in the world. It finishes down the Champs-Elysees. Everyone who is anyone in the cycling world will compete in this event and will want to do well.

Paris has twice hosted the Olympic Games. It hosted the second games in 1900 and then it did so again in 1924. These games were immortalized on film in the movie Chariots of Fire. It has bid for them again but hasn't been successful. It was in the running for the 2012 games and it made the final vote with London. London won 54-50 meaning that Paris once again missed out.
