Preventing White Beach Sand from Destruction is Main Goal of Oil Cleanup Companies

Going to the beach meant having fun in the cool, blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico for many people. It also meant they could bask in the sun while lying on white beach sand. However, those images of fun were darkened this past summer when BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and 11 people lost their lives. Thousands of gallons of oil were discharged into the Gulf and it has threatened to turn white beach sand into a black, oily wasteland. Property owners lost business because people stayed away in fear of being soaked in black oil from the spill. Also, wildlife that lives along the white beach sand was also threatened. Some oil spill cleanup companies are trying some things to help save the white beach sand. One method is the use of HESCO Concertainers Units. These units are made of geotextiles and have a welded mesh frame that forms a strong bond when joined together. They can be joined together to form a wall for miles and miles of beach and will prevent oil from ruining the white sands of any beach. You can fill them with:

Crushed rock

Sand

Earth

Granular material

In addition, it takes only two people to put together a unit while it may take 10 people to put in 1,500 sandbags. This will save property owners labor costs as well as time. It only takes 20 minutes to assemble one of the units.

In addition to the using the HESCO Concertainers Units, agents are being added to them that will turn the oil from a liquid into a solid immediately. Enviro Bond 403 is one such agent that can do this job. It is non-toxic and does not harm humans, fish or wildlife. The agent will work on any hydrocarbon spill and requires very little clothing protection for the worker. Also, the solid oil can then be used as a recyclable product for plastics, rubber, asphalt and can be burned as a fuel.

Integrated Protection Systems (IPS) and their preferred installing company, Sterling Building Specialists, are using both the HESCO Concertainers Units and Enviro Bond 403 in the fight in the oil spill cleanup. Using these tools will help protect white beach sand from turning into a black mess. For more on protecting white beach sand, email info@bp-oil-spills.com.
