subject: The Many Benefits Of A Regular Liver Detox [print this page]

The liver is the primary organ that eliminates accumulated toxins from our systems. To keep our bodies functioning properly, alternative health professionals tell us that a liver detox is necessary at least once a year. This is based on the concept that keeping the system free of toxins can prevent many illnesses.

The process we call 'detoxification' has been used throughout the ages. Its benefits were even acknowledged by Hippocrates, the man we call the 'father of modern medicine'. The ancient practice, Ayurvedic medicine, which is still in use today, rigorously believes that detoxification is an effective way of healing numerous chronic illnesses.

Detoxification is therefore seen as a vital therapy to ensure good health, make us resistant to diseases, and to maintain vitality. Research has shown that patients who suffer with certain allergies or weak immune systems respond positively to regular detoxification. Some of these conditions are fibromyalgia, environmental illness and chronic fatigue which conventional medicine is unable to treat.

Even more common conditions can benefit from it. These include depression, arthritis, anxiety, chronic infections, asthma, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions, headaches, obesity, digestive disorders, mental illness, and low blood sugar. Alternative health care practitioners are unanimous in the belief that detoxification is an integral part of the healing process.

Methods of detoxification can include fasting, herbal antioxidant formulas, and gall bladder or liver flushes. Gall bladder and liver flushes increase the supply of bile which clears out the toxins. If there are any liver or gall bladder stones, they will be softened and eliminated. If you are considering these two therapies, a licensed health therapist should perform them.

You could also do a self-detox if you prefer a non-invasive method. This will last for 7 days and it can be done once a year. By drinking lots of fluids and eating certain types of food, your liver will be able to eradicate accumulated toxins. It's advisable to first get approval from your doctor.

During this period, cut out red meat and anything that contains fat. You can eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as you like because they are high in fiber, minerals, and vitamins. Drink at least 10 glasses of water every day. Fiber will eliminate the toxins while the water will help dilute them.

Foods that are rich in Vitamin B are also essential. These include tomatoes, whole grains, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, and tomatoes. Fruit and vegetables that have bright colors should also be included, e. G. Yellow, green or red peppers. During your liver detox, you should also take a supplement that contains Vitamin C, riboflavin, copper, niacin, iron, and magnesium. A health shop will be able to recommend a suitable product.
