Child Support Payments and Suspended Licenses

You could end up having any type of licenses revoked if you fail to make payments of your child support. Your business licenses fall into this category, as well as your driver's license. In 1992, the Child Support Recovery Act was installed that makes this possible. It does happen. There are some things you can do, but you want to try and avoid this if you can.

Contempt of Court

It may not happen immediately, but if you are hit with a Contempt of Court for nonpayment, you can end up having your license revoked. Things like not showing up for hearings are usually what prompts the revoking in cases such as this. To avoid this, if you know you cannot make a hearing for any reason, respond to the notice in writing explaining and stating you know that it is happening.

Collection Notices

If you are sent a collection notice, do not ignore it. A small payment is better than none at all. If you have payments to catch up, you will need a payment plan. You will need to have made payments of some type to get your license reinstated.

Follow Through

Make a payment, make a plan and always respond in writing. If your professional license or your driver's license gets revoked, these things may not always get your license reinstated and you need to be prepared for that. But it can prevent further trouble. Staying calm is the main key, and doing everything you can on your end to rectify the situation and not allowing your ex-wife to provoke you to anger.
